Halifax Joint Omnibus Committee

Halifax was possibly more famous for its financial institution and its production of carpets rather than for it's bus fleet, but the livery applied - Green, Orange and Cream was certainly unusal if not unique. (Glasgow also had a penchant for these colours).

Like many local authorities Halifax operated a fleet of trams which were eventually replaced by motor buses.

Two railway companies became involved with bus operation in Halifax and the original bus fleet carried the tram livery of maroon and cream and the inscription applied to the buses became - Joint Committee and Halifax Transport - L.M.S.- L.N.E.R - quite a mouthful !

The area, being situated near the pennines was very hilly and A.E.C.s were chosen with larger than usual engines and preselective fluid transmission to ease gear changing on the hilly routes.
