London Transport

London's buses have been known as London General Omnibus Company, London Passenger Transport Board and London Transport Executive.  It became the largest single bus and tram operator in the Country and possibly the World owning many thousands of Buses, Trolleybuses, Coaches and Trams.

With such a huge fleet of vehicles there were many different classes, the most ubiquitous being:- LT- A.E.C., ST-A.E.C., STL-A.E.C. RT-A.E.C., RTL-Leyland, RTW- Leyland, RM-A.E.C.. Other manufacturers also supplied London Transport with many and varied vehicles being, Daimler, Guy, and Bristol.

AEC supplied  most of London's requirements and had a very close working relationship with London Transport's own design team, sometimes developing new vehicles together.

The most famous bus ever built was the AEC/ Park Royal Routemaster first shown in 1954.  Many remain in service throughout the Country although London have now disposed of their vehicles.

With such a large fleet of many and varied vehicles, Londons buses make a fascinating study for the transport historian and enthusiast.
